Hawaii County to provide sand to residents ahead of possible hurricane effects

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaii County Department of Public Works announced that sand will be available at locations throughout the Island from Thursday to enable residents to make their own sandbags ahead of possible flooding due to Hurricanes Erick and Flossie.

Saudi changes allow women to travel without male consent

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia issued new laws early Friday that grant women greater freedoms by allowing any citizen to apply for a passport and travel freely, ending a long-standing and controversial guardianship policy that had required male consent for a woman to travel or carry a passport.

The changes approved by King Salman and his Cabinet allow any person 21 and older to travel abroad without prior consent and any citizen to apply for a Saudi passport on their own.

Newlywed dies in river near bus seen in ‘Into the Wild’

FAIRBANKS, Alaska (AP) — A newlywed said he frantically tried but failed to save his wife as she struggled to cross a raging river near a bus in the Alaska wilderness made famous by the movie “Into the Wild.”

Piotr Markielau told the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner in an email Tuesday that he and 24-year-old Veranika Nikonova had spent two nights at the bus, which serves as a shelter for hikers and hunters near Denali National Park.

The Children’s Commissioner has described the practice of targeting young people as “irresponsible”. Sky News has seen 208 political ads shown to 13 to 17-year-olds on Facebook and Facebook-owned Instagram, where advertisers can target campaigns according to age. A Brexit protester has been jailed for blocking trains running between London and France, causing disruption costing more than £1m. Terry Maher, 44, climbed on top of a tunnel in what police said was an extremely hazardous area overlooking railway lines near St Pancras International station in March – the month Britain was meant to leave the EU.
